“When the political record of the late 20th and early 21st century is written, Steve Gordon will at least have a footnote.” - Jim Talent (U.S. Senate 2002-2006, U.S House of Representatives 1992-2000)
Steve Gordon is referred to as the “dean of Republican political guidance.” He was the National Political Director in 2014 for Senator Cory Gardner and had a 19-year association with retired Senator and Assistant Republican Leader Jon Kyl.
Steve’s political career began in 1978 as Finance Director for candidate – then U.S. Senator – Rudy Boschwitz of Minnesota. He formed Steve Gordon & Associates in 1979, and raised over $88 million for prominent Republican Governors, Senators, and Members of Congress until he retired for the third and final time from professional politics in December 2014. These candidates included Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Republican Whip John Thune, Assistant Senate Republican Leader Jon Kyl, and Senator John McCain. They also include former Senators Wayne Allard, Bill Armstrong, John Ashcroft, Christopher (Kit) Bond, Thad Cochran, Alfonse D’Amato, Bob Dole, Lauch Faircloth, Slade Gorton, Rod Grams, Chuck Hagel, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Jim Jeffords, Dirk Kempthorne, Steve Symms, Jim Talent, Governor Bill Weld, Senator and Governor Pete Wilson, Governor Mitch Daniels, Congressman Jason Smith, Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson, Congressman Vin Weber, and Congresswoman and Secretary of Labor Lynn Martin.
Steve was a Pioneer in the 2004 Bush-Cheney reelection campaign and was a Trailblazer and member of the national finance committee in the John McCain for President campaign.
He is well known for his ability to both understand and explain the political process. Steve has been a guest lecturer at the University of Virginia’s Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy, George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management, the Dole Institute at the University of Kansas, and at the Republican National Committee’s Campaign Finance College. Steve has addressed several organizations, including the Republican Jewish Coalition and the Construction Industry Roundtable.
In December 2014, Steve Gordon announced that he was pulling back from the professional campaign financing field – a sector he helped create. “It’s with a sense of accomplishment and great excitement for the future that I want to devote my full attention going forward to building Total Spectrum/Steve Gordon and Associates.” His firm now includes Total Spectrum/Arizona, Total Spectrum/Georgia, Total Spectrum/Colorado, and Total Spectrum/USVI. Each uses advocacy, communications, research, and political engagement to help clients achieve their legislative and regulatory goals at both the federal and state level. They specialize in tax, appropriations, financial services, telecom, trade, energy, health care and transportation. In 2021, Steve Gordon announced the formation of Total Spectrum/SGA Business Development, which helps companies develop the skills and relationships necessary to grow their top and bottom lines.
