Steve Pfister has over thirty years of Washington experience, and advises clients on policy formulation, legislative strategy and tactics, lobbying, coalition building, political education and action, grassroots, media relations and crisis management.

In 1998, Steve was named National Retail Federation Senior Vice President for Government Relations, a position he held for twelve years. As chief lobbyist for the world’s largest retail trade association, Steve directed the federation’s legislative, regulatory, political and grassroots activities. He also served as a member of the executive staff and was the primary legislative and political liaison to NRF’s Board of Directors.

Steve has a keen understanding of the intersection of business and public policy. He used that knowledge to play a pivotal role in the most significant legislative and regulatory initiatives that faced the retail industry and business communities over the past two decades concerning tax, trade, health and benefits, banking/ credit and labor-management relations issues.

His accomplishments were recognized by The Hill newspaper, which rated Steve as one of Washington’s top trade association lobbyists for six consecutive years.

Steve also served as a spokesperson for NRF and the retail industry on a wide range of policy-related issues. He has been quoted in numerous major publications, including The Washington Post, New York Times and Wall Street Journal, and participated in live interviews on CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street”, Fox News’ “Your World with Neil Cavuto” and Fox Business’ “Bulls & Bears.”

Steve joined NRF in 1986 as a Legislative Representative and was promoted to Vice President for Legislative and Political Affairs in 1990. Prior to joining NRF, Pfister served more than five years as a Republican Floor Assistant in the U.S. House of Representatives.
